Monitoring of saline intrusion, Groundwater quantity and quality.
CORALINA (enviromental public autority of San Andres Isles)
Maser and Eijkelkamp Soil & Water
Colombia, archipelago of San Andres
The island of San Andres, depends currently for over 80% on groundwater for its watersupply, but its exploitation through wells, boreholes and deep wells is affected by anti-exploitation techniques, water leaks in the sewage system and in general by the lack of knowledge about the aquifer system. This situation is intensified by population growth, increase in hotels and disorderly immigration
For that reason there is a need to implement an intelligent monitoring system. Using the Diver-Netz CORALINA will have the water data necessary to make determinations about the use and protection of water resources on the island.
At present CORALINA has 15 monitoring wells in which Maser installed CTD-Diver water level loggers with radio transmission. The water data will be downloaded to the PDA Nautiz and Diver Gate. In addition to installation Maser performed a training in the installation and operation of the equipment. Eijkelkamp Soil & Water supported for the conceptual training of monitoring groundwater. During the project implementation Maser conducted monitoring visits for data analysis.
